"Only an Idiot Would Say No": A University Student on Becoming a Sperm Donor

Sperm donorGreece·2026-08

This is the first in a series of real stories from people actually building families, or helping others do it — in their own words, not ours. Alexandros is a university student in Athens who decided to become a sperm donor this summer. He shared this with Family Found by email.

It started when summer vacation began. I'm a university student, and at first I planned to go work on the islands, but I was too lazy to organize the whole thing. Then I realized construction work in Athens paid roughly the same anyway, so I ended up installing ventilation systems.

After a while I decided that was boring too and started looking for something that required fewer hours. I used ChatGPT to search for unusual side jobs and found sperm donation. It was basically perfect: easy money, only a few hours of my time, compatible with my part-time furniture-delivery work, plus free genetic testing and blood tests.

I mean, only an idiot would say no to potentially €400 a week for masturbating.

Now my next ridiculous side quest is poop donation. If I get accepted, apparently my microbiome is becoming another income stream.
